Packaging Safety: New Product Identity and Defense Plan

The new Product Defense and Identity Plan integrates measures to prevent and mitigate alterations or adulterations.

Ensuring the safety and integrity of products and packaging is a core responsibility embraced by Trombini in the production of paper and corrugated cardboard packaging. To achieve this, our manufacturing units employ advanced management tools designed to monitor and enhance the safety of both people and products throughout the production processes. In addition to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) manual and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, we have introduced the Product Defense and Identity Plan (Food Defense/Food Fraud). This initiative further strengthens the packaging production process, particularly for products in the food sector.

The new Product Defense and Identity Plan integrates measures to prevent and mitigate alterations or adulterations, whether direct or indirect, during manufacturing. Its primary goal is to protect product integrity, ensuring supervised and guaranteed quality while enhancing the company’s reliability and fostering stronger relationships with our customers.

What benefits does implementing the Product Defense and Identity Plan bring to the manufacturing of corrugated cardboard boxes and paper bags, making our Packaging Security Program even more robust?
This program offers significant advantages, primarily by making the production of our packaging safer for our customers, thereby raising the quality standards we deliver.
Adapting to Good Manufacturing Practices has become increasingly important in the market, especially following the pandemic, when safety and hygiene concerns gained heightened attention.

Why can we consider product defense and identity tools essential allies in packaging security control programs?
The Product Defense and Identity Plan, also known as Food Defense and Food Fraud, encompasses a series of actions and initiatives aimed at preventing the intentional contamination of products. The goal is to protect products from any form of intentional adulteration or contamination that could make them unsafe or harmful to consumers. With the implementation of this plan, Trombini will ensure and oversee the entire process of safe manufacturing.

What stage of implementation is the Program currently at in Trombini’s units?
The Product Defense and Identity Plan consists of several key stages, including:
1- Vulnerability Assessment: Mapping out the points in the process that pose the greatest risks of intentional tampering. 2- Establishing Mitigation and Prevention Strategies: This may involve investments such as installing cameras, controlling access, changing workflows, and more.
3- Developing a Monitoring, Corrective Action, and Verification System: Ensuring the system functions as intended while allowing for continuous improvements.
4- Employee Awareness and Training: Engaging and educating all involved personnel through targeted training.

At Trombini, we are currently in the final phase, focusing on training our employees.

How does this impact our employees who are directly involved in packaging production?
In addition to reinforcing a culture focused on Packaging Safety, we are living in a time where it’s crucial to emphasize the significance of this sector for Trombini. Our collaborators take great pride in being part of an exceptional team, knowing that the packaging they produce is reaching households across the country, always with a focus on care and concern for human well-being.

Trombini has a wide range of experience in supplying packaging for the food segment. How does the program benefit our clients?
The program expands the commitment to protecting your product and is part of the relentless search to better offer a complete packaging solution, keeping our production processes up to date with standards, norms and food safety.
We believe that safe packaging is one that doesn’t pose any health risks or contamination to the products it contains. This can only be ensured through practices that control biological, physical, and chemical agents that could present a risk. Our programs enable us to assess vulnerabilities, develop strategies to mitigate risks at each critical stage, monitor processes, and implement corrective actions that strengthen verification procedures. All of this guarantees our customers a safe and suitable product while enhancing the reliability of our brand. How does the Product Defense and Identity Program position us in relation to the corrugated cardboard packaging and multilayer paper bags market?
